Tesfa has been awarded his PhD at The University of Queensland. His PhD project was on mental health service utilization in low resource settings, looking at treatment gaps and barriers to seek treatment for mental health reasons, particularly focusing on depression and alcohol use disorder. He holds the UQ Research Training Program Scholarship. Tesfa has an MSc in Community and Clinical Mental Health, and he is an academic staff at Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia.
